T
he Boston Area MG Club was started by a small group of MG car enthusiasts and has grown to a current membership of around 50. The club sponsors many activities, including monthly meetings, drives, technical sessions and parties. We are a very social group and encourage participation.General membership meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month. Most meetings will be held at the Woburn Elks The meetings start at 7:00. Details will usually be posted here, and members can sign-up for email notices via our Yahoo Group.
Our annual Winter Doldrums Party was held on March 2, 2008 at F1/Ascari and everyone who attended had a good meal and a great time.
Our annual car show is held in October at the Edaville Railroad in Carver, Massachusetts. The site offers train rides, a cranberry festival, rides for kids and craftspeople. Our 2008 show is scheduled for October 11. Here is an image gallery from the 2007 event.
In 2006 the Bay State MGA Club also joined us to make up for their rained out MG Day at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum. You can now view two photo galleries of the 2006 show one by Nels Anderson and one by Diane Balinski.
Membership dues are $25.00 per year (includes a subscription to the British Marque). You do not have to own an MG to be a member. Come to a meeting to join, or use the "Join" link at the right.
NEWS
Monthly Meeting: Our next regular meeting will be held on Friday May 9, 2008 at Bickford's Grille Family Restaurant, 270 Cochituate Road (Route 30), Framingham. Meetings start at 7:00 p.m. You can read past meeting minutes here.
Name Badges: Kurt Steele has arranged for us to all get club name badges, which will help identify us at events and help new members to get to know everyone. An order form in Word .doc format can be downloaded here.
Fifth Event: Our big event last August was the cookout/drive/poker run organized by Kurt and Linda Steele. We had a good turnout of members and cars and after a great meal headed out along the roads including a stop for ice cream in Grafton. A photo gallery of the day can be found here.
Fourth Event: Several club members took part in an after tea at an English style garden in Manchester-by-th-Sea, held as a benefit for the British Charitable Society. A row of MG's ended up parked in from of the estate while their owners were enjoying the event. Some photos can be seen here
Third Event: Dyno Day was booked for August 4th, 2007 and was another great success. What is it? A dyno is a rolling road you put your car on. A computer attached to the dyno will calculate the horsepower and torque of your car, as well as tailpipe air/fuel ratio to aid you or your mechanic in tuning your motor to its full potential. This is not only for high performance cars, but daily drivers as well. Here are some pictures from our last Dyno Day held in 2005. Thanks to New England Dyno for holding the event.
Second Event: Our second driving event of 2007 was group visit to the Collings Foundation open house on June 16 to see the extensive collection of antique cars and airplanes. There were also biplane rides available, radio control planes flying and more. We had about five cars join in the ride. More information here.
First Event: Our first scheduled club event last year was our annual Drive To Rileys, May 12, in Framingham for their weekly Saturday night cruise. We had great weather and a nice turnout! Photos of this event have been added to the photos page.
Holiday Party: Everyone seems to hold a party in December, so we decided to do something different and hold ours later in the winter. Our 2007 "Winter Doldrums" Party was March 4, 2007 at Ascari at F1 Boston from 4 to 9. Buffet style dinner was served around 6 or so. More details can be found here. Note that the party replaces our March meeting.
Last year's party was held
January 14, 2006 in place of our regular meeting.
