AI Traffic Made Easy For Newbies
By Otto Wipfel
Frank Carver (EMU FARMER) and Alan Street (GRANDPAOZ) asked me to add this to my other
So here goes:
My Test Route's "1 Activity" Player Service has been created. Note that the "End Point" is not far from
the "Start Point", giving you FREEDOM to drive where you want in Routes with "MANUAL" Switches.
Having "SAVED" the Activity, I prefer to EXIT, go back into the AE and OPEN the Route to create
the AI TRAFFIC Service. TRAFFIC can be added to any route this way.
Where it says "Traffic Pattern" at the bottom right, click on NEW
]
I give it a name associating it with the route it is being used in
Do the same with the "Traffic pattern display name"
Now click on "Edit" the new Traffic Pattern bottom right and "New" in the left
window which appears afterwards:
This will bring up the "SERVICE EDITOR" window just like when creating or editing a
Player Service. Carry on giving the AI-Traffic Service the same name associated with the
Route it is for, select the CONSIST you want to use for it and click on "New" Path:
Select the "Starting Point" for the AI-Traffic Consist, the "End Point" will be created
automatically, but can be varied by making switches in the path "Take other exit" or
placing it somewhere else! Also tick the box "Player driveable Path" which will allow the
Player Consist to drive on the same Path, following the AI-Consist or getting in its way!
"Leave path editor", SAVE and OK to leave the Service Editor.
Now we need to tell the AI-CONSIST when to run. Select the new Service in the
Traffic Pattern window and "Insert selected Service". I usually start mine minutes
after I am in the route, ready to drive the player's train.
Insert the intervals you would like your AI-Consist to run, in this case one every minute
three times one minute after starting the Route. You can also add other AI-CONSISTS
providing "Services" for them have been created using the same Path.
You can now test the AI-CONSIST running by increasing the "Time acceleration",
when to start with "Time", bottom left and "Play"
and here he goes!
HAVE FUN!
